Overview

This interagency briefing was scheduled for 60-minutes and provided best practices of using Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to meet M-19-21 requirements for digitization, modernization and other aspects of the President's Management Agenda (PMA). RPA is in alignment with the PMA Cross Agency Priority (CAP) Goal 6, as it is a tool for “Shifting from Low to High Value Work.” At agency-level, RPA can represent a profound change, with the potential to empower non-IT professionals and process owners with the tools to automate a significant share of their workload. This technology helps agencies save labor hours on mundane repeated tasks. RPA is a business process automation technology that automates manual tasks that are largely rules based, structured, and repetitive using software robots, also known as bots. RPA tools map a process for a robot to follow which allows the bot to operate in place of a human. RPA enables federal employees to spend less time on routine tasks and focus on high value, more challenging, agency mission based tasks on hand. Federal employees are encouraged to participate in the RPA Community of Practice (CoP) led by GSA and Technology Transformation Services (TTS) program offices to facilitate collaboration and problem solving between federal agencies that are interested in implementing RPA.

GSA provides insight on how RPA allows for:

  • Better Customer Experience
  • Minimal Error Rates
  • Better Management Capabilities
  • Transactional to Analytical Culture
