Pursuant to Executive Order (EO) 14212 (Advancing Environmental Health and Facility Safety in Federal Operations) and in alignment with the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative, this interagency briefing will explore the federal mandates to reduce toxic chemical exposure in government-managed properties. Many federal pest control programs rely on toxic chemicals that are still used across U.S. base housing, public buildings, and landscaped grounds. These legacy chemicals contribute to increased exposure risks, while also introducing avoidable cost burdens tied to materials, labor, and future liability tied to cost of care - mirroring past federal health liabilities such as those faced by Vietnam-era veterans exposed to toxic chemicals such as Agent Orange.
This briefing will guide agencies through the process of evaluating their Pesticide Footprint - quantifying the use of chemicals, application frequency, and the true cost of reliance on toxic chemicals. Attendees will gain insight into how an analysis of the Pesticide Footprint can serve as a compliance, health, and cost-reduction tool under current federal directives and abiding by this administration's priorities.
Recommended Attending Personnel:
Facility managers, risk management officers, base housing/environmental health personnel, safety officers, compliance leads, procurement officials, and sustainability program managers.
